Dog in your family
First of all, I want to say, that I do not like to use the word training. I think, it fits more circus animals, but not your best friend ( which dogs are). I do not use regular training methods, like clicker and etc. Instead, I am teaching my dog house rules and right behavior outside of the house. You can teach your dog easily without using clicker or other methods whatsoever, if you will follow my simple advice and dog tips. Dogs are very smart animals and they love to learn new things. Your main target is to develop your pets brain and teach it, not train, not to do tricks. However, tricks also can be learned and its actually fun for the dog. You should treat your pet as a child, but keep in mind, that its still has animal psychology and its animal needs.
This post will be about your first days with your puppy. This is a very important time in your and your dogs life- getting a new home. Before taking the dog, make sure that you are not gonna change your plans in a next 15 years. Dogs have to go only to a forever home!
What do you need for a new family member?
I would recommend to buy a few toys. Do not buy many different toys at first- the dog wont play with them all. Every puppy has its own personality and taste. Different dogs like different things. Watch your baby to find out what kind of toys he woul prefer.
No matter, where did you get your puppy show it to a vet. It is always good to be sure, that your dog is healthy.
Do not take the dog if you have any material problems. High quality food, vet care, toys and etc are not very cheap.
As soon as you bring your puppy home, leave it for a little bit ( still under your watch) Let him walk around the house and see where is he at. Show him his bed, give him a little treat while he is there. At a very beginning your pet needs to understand a few things- your hands are good, they full of love and tasty things. His bed is a safe place, when he is there he can have rest. However, do not let your puppy think that this is only HIS place, sit near him, pet him. Your dog must understand, that you can have access to everything-toys, food, treats and bed
Exercise 1
Feeding the dog is an important process. It can help you to establish right relationship between you and your pup
Put the bowl with food on the ground and make your puppy sit ( help him gently with your hand and say sit). Do not let him touch his food until you say “Ok”. Put him back to the sit position every time your dog tries to get the bowl. When puppy is very small, this exercise has to be very short.
This dog tips will help you to teach your dog, that you are the leader! It will also help to teach him sit without special lessons. In a few days, he will understand what you want and you wont have to help him with your hand ( still say sit all the time!)
Spend time with your pup not only playing. Talk to your dog, say him how handsome he is, how good he is and etc. First he might not react, but talking to your dog is very very helpful. Dogs need to be communicated, they feel needed and loved and they also start to learn your intonations and new words.
Teaching first commands
There is no reason to do a special training from the first day. You can teach your dog many things, just by talking to your pup. Before going for a walk, tell him where you going! Like “lets go for a walk!” and repeat it every time you do it. Do the same with other things you want you pet to remember.
